Alpha Lambda Sigma (ALS) sorority hosted their annual Red Gala on Thursday, December 1, 2016 commencing at 9:00pm. The event was held in Kessel Student Centers Gottesman multipurpose room. This event benefited their philanthropy, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. All of the proceeds raised from this event will be donated promptly to the Foundation.
There were several contests both in the male and female categories. The sisters of ALS wore outfits entirely of red and were auctioned off on stage. The first contestant was senior Environmental Studies major, Haylei Peart. A short biography was read describing who she was, and some of her proudest accomplishments accompanied by the audiences favorite question: What was her best asset? The biding started at $1.00 and quickly jumped to over $50.00. Peart was bid on for $80.00. The contestants following her were all bid on for at least $50.00.
Dinner was catered from Sal’s Pasta and Pizza restaurant in Pleasantville. There were several options to choose from such as salad, chicken, fried calamari, pasta al la vodka amongst other pastas, three different types of pizza as well as beverages.
After the meal portion of the event the male candidates went on stage one by one and were bid on. The bidding spanned from $30.00 to $100.00.
All of the money raised at this event was being donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. In addition, ALS is bringing in an HIV/AIDS mobile testing unit today, December 2, 2016, also known as World AIDS Day. The testing is free all day long, and the sisters of Alpha Lambda Sigma will also be getting tested.
